Woodworkers RE-turn Wood to The Arboretum

Wood RE-turns
to The Arboretum

About a year ago, a large Kentucky coffeetree fell at The Arboretum on Alumni Drive.  The wood was harvested by volunteers from the Bluegrass Area Woodturners to create works of art, using traditional, mini- and pole lathes.   Coming full circle, these items will be sold at The Arboretum as a fundraising project.
The hand-crafted objects, including bowls, vases, candlesticks and pens, have been shaped and polished to bring out their natural grain and luster.  They will be exhibited at The Arboretum’s Dorotha Oatts visitor center from July 6 through 24.  An artists’ reception and demonstration of wood turning techniques will be held 10 a.m. – noon July 10 at the center, located at 500 Alumni Drive.  The public is invited to share refreshments at the celebration.
